NotebookLM: Google's AI research assistant for lesson planning Online

Sign-up through SBCTC's Event Calendar!

This session is part of SBCTC’s seven-part Faculty AI Learning Series, facilitated by instructional designer Yun Moh. Each session features presentations, hands-on practice, and take-away resources to help you explore ways to integrate AI into teaching, learning, and student support. We invite you to register and join us.

We will explore and design use cases of Google NotebookLM, which is free to all users. NotebookLM serves as an AI-powered research and study assistant for educational purposes, enabling students to upload various source materials, such as PDFs, YouTube videos, and Google Docs, to generate study guides, summaries, mind maps, and answer questions about the content. The audio and video overview (podcasting & vodcasting) is a tool used by many college students. Teachers can use it for lesson planning, creating differentiated learning materials, and facilitating discussions by generating questions and content from course materials. Students can use it to get personalized study help, clarify complex topics, and collaborate on group projects.

NotebookLM distinguishes itself from the rest of the LLM models by using the RAG framework (indexed and locally ground resources) to minimize AI hallucinations.
